Friend,
I get it. Getting people to listen to your music online and build a fan base can feel so difficult and impossible sometimes.
The reason why it does is because sometimes we don't know how to promote music in ways that bring the listeners to us instead of finding them.
After steady researching for hours online, I've put together a solid list of 16 super ways to promote your music business online. Here they are:
1. BUILD A STUNNING + EASY TO USE WEBSITE
You need to have a place where people can go to lock into your music and follow your journey. Social media is great for introducing people to your work but you need to plug them into a world which is all about you. Stream songs, view pictures, watch videos, buy merchandise. You, You You! That's how your gonna create super fans.
Sites like Shopify.com and Wix.com are great for making easy websites which are professional and quality too.
2. CONSISTENT BLOGGING
Your probably thinking, "But why do would I need to blog?".
The short answer is "SEO". SEO is basically google and google LOVES bloggers. If you blog a lot of quality content, eventually you'll end up on googles 1st page. Most people searching google don't go past the 1st and second page so if your showing up in those areas, your going to get a shit load of traffic to your website which means loads of new listeners and fans. So blog, blog blog!
3. GROW AN EMAIL LIST & SEND UPDATES DAILY/WEEKLY
Ask people for their emails and collect them with mailchimp.com or aweber.com so that you can email them with updates of your latest releases. Studies show people buy from emails way more than social media. Social media is similar to a party and email is similar the back office of retail store. Which of these environments are you more likely to buy in?
4. USE OTHER MARKETPLACES TO SELL
A marketplace for example is eBay. You upload your product and eBay bring people to your product and if they like, they buy. All the work is done for you i.e. traffic, promotion etc. Popular marketplaces for music are iTunes, Spotify, airbit. My favorite site for is FIVERR.COM
5. BUILD A SOLID SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE
Social media is the new playground for musician's. Instagram is my favorite and most effective at the moment, followed by YouTube. I wont go too much into this but which ever platform you use; comment, like, share and grow your followers/subscribers. Simple!
6. PAY SOCIAL INFLUENCERS FOR SPONSORED POSTS
Some accounts on social media i.e. Instagram for example have over 10,000 followers. These are called 'influencers'. Find people that have a large following and ask them
'How much would a sponsored post cost?'
They'll usually reply anything between $10 - $1000. BEWARE, some accounts have fake followers so do your research first. A good indicator is the number of comments/likes compared to their follower count. For example, if they have 1.5 million but there likes or comments are 100. They've probably bought followers.
When you find someone with a large legit amount of followers, give them something of yours to post and grow your audience.
7. GOOGLE ADWORDS
Google is the 3rd most popular site after YouTube.com. Get a piece of this piece buy setting up a google AdWords account and running some ads to your music. Its simple and effective and can create huge results if done correctly.
